The wonderful and engaging children's book, Play With Me (A Playdate Book) by Kat Chen invites children on a lovely picnic where they can play the game of their choice with friends. Ellison and his friend, Rabbit, are going out for a picnic and have invited us to come along. Ellison lays out a picnic blanket and serves some drinks. There are many choices to choose from. You can choose between water, apple juice, or delicious carrot juice, which Rabbit prefers. You can also pick the cookie you would like to eat. There are many more fun activities to try out and other games to play. Before the end of the playdate, you will enjoy the time spent with your new friends and work and play with them tomorrow.
In this creative book, children will have the opportunity to make their own decisions regarding what they want to do and the games they want to play. It gives them a voice and gently guides them throughout the day. I loved that there are a variety of choices and games to choose from. I found the characters kind and fun. Children will also learn how to work and play within a group. The language used is accessible to young readers and the illustrations are vibrant and easy to understand. It is an empowering play guide with well-designed illustrations that children will love.
