I can guess why Noel DeJesus wrote Preparation Breeds Professionalism. It is 'A Consolidated Guide to Army Leadership,' just as is stated in the subtitle. It is a very concise guide to what leadership is and how to apply leadership principles as you navigate your way through a career in the U.S. Army. You would get a chance to learn these principles in Army leadership courses as you reach appropriate stages in your military career. However, I think it will be great if a young man or woman - who hasn’t reached those stages yet but is curious about leadership - buys this book and gets a head-start on what leadership is and how to apply the principles even before the Army might think he or she is ready. At the same time, I also feel this concise book, which won’t take a lot of time to read, will help any civilian who wants to advance in any field in life start forming ideas and learning methods which will help them succeed and lead.

I think Noel DeJesus has done a valuable public service by making these principles available to everyone who wants to read about them. Preparation Breeds Professionalism gives concrete form to some general principles that all young people think about at one time or another. But if these young people are anything like I was when I entered the Army, their ideas, definitions, and thoughts are nebulous and unclear. They can’t defend or articulate them well so sometimes they actually end up acting against what they really believe. Noel DeJesus has taken all this into consideration and laid the definitions and principles out clearly so that following a concrete path is easier. The writing is simple but good, as are the points he makes.
