Stormy Normy was born a brumby. His life changed drastically when he crawled through a fence and was separated from his mother. As he ages and retires, he finds himself reliving his youth as he tries to instruct the younger horses in the paddock. He looks back on the comfort and instruction of Jacqueline as he tries to keep Johnny and Tuxedo in line. Then something he never expected happens: Charlie and Chris are packing up for a trip back to West Queensland, where he was born. Their mission is to rescue the brumbies there and perhaps bring back his mother. Stormy Normy is taken back to where it all started for him. Will the mother who raised him and his birth mother still be there? Will Charlie and Chris actually be able to find Midnight, his birth mother, and bring her home to live with him? That's what you will find out in Stormy Normy and the Christmas Surprise by Leisa Fail.

Leisa Fail brings back the whole cast of characters from the Stormy Normy series in Stormy Normy and the Christmas Surprise. Leisa has a special talent for telling the stories in this series in such a way that keeps the reader interested and invested in the characters while eagerly turning the page to see what happens next. This book is no different. Along with a captivating storyline, Leisa teaches subtle lessons about mothers and how they influence our lives: patience contained and controlled, realistic expectations, and dealing with anxiety. Appropriate illustrations at the beginning of each chapter, expertly crafted by Amy Rennie, set the tone of the chapter. I found Stormy Normy and the Christmas Surprise intriguing, delightfully written, and a valuable source of gentle instruction for young readers. It will keep them turning pages with hopeful anticipation.
