Rain by Dylan Dodson is a well-written magical fantasy set in a world where elements like earth, fire, water, and wind shape the land and life of its people. Arcthulus is a storyteller from Rain's Harbor. Arcthulus is called by a magical tree, which reveals a mystery to him and warns him about a coming flood that could destroy the world. The world is called LoDa’s Hearth, which is full of nature, gods, and magic. Arcthulus decides to help save the world from the incoming chaos and embarks on a journey with friends like Halwyn, Orlan, Alden, and Dally, some of whom are connected to one of the elements—wind, water, and earth—through a sword. They travel across continents, to the southern seas and the shrine of Wynd, and battle against the influence of aDoL—the god of fire—fight monsters, rock soldiers, and storms, and face personal losses.

Rain is full of strong feelings and emotions. One of the things I loved was the unique writing style Dodson used; each page felt like a poem or love letter. The characters were well-developed and relatable. Arcthulus and Halwyn both had their flaws; their struggle to carry out the role of saving a world about to collapse was really admirable. There were many heartfelt moments, like Arcthulus with his dog Small Leaf and moments with his wife, Emley. I really loved how Dodson was able to balance the actions with quiet, heartfelt scenes. Each scene was explained in detail, and the plot flowed seamlessly. The gods of wind, water, and earth, and the spiritual ideas in this book reminded me of most of my favorite movie series; I just wondered what it would look like if it were a movie. Rain by Dylan Dodson covers themes of sacrifice, love, and destiny. I recommend it to readers who love fantasies with a poetic feel, strong characters, and adventures.
