Reaching Kylee: Parts 1 and 2 (A Kellam High Novel) is a two-part novel by Tamara Hart Heiner. Price Hudson has just moved to the country with his dad and younger sister after his mother's death. Feeling completely lost without his mom, he welcomes the chance to start over, as he no longer wants to chase after popularity and baseball championships the way he did when she was alive. Small town life was somewhat comforting, except for the strange family that lived next door. According to his classmates, the couple had a teenage daughter who went missing a few months before, but Price is certain that she's the same girl he just met as she even introduced herself as Kylee. His interaction with the family doesn't seem to match up with the stories that others are telling him. Price's life soon becomes consumed with solving the mystery of the girl next door.
Reaching Kylee is the companion novel to another book in the Kellam High series, Lay Me Down. The two books tell the same story from the different perspectives of the two main characters, so reading one book may give away details when reading the other. However, they are both worthwhile. With beautifully written and dramatic scenes, Tamara Hart Heiner puts a paranormal twist on a classic star-crossed lovers' style of story. There are plenty of emotional moments, as Price not only has to deal with his trauma but also that of his neighbor as he learns more about her. I loved the graceful way that the author addresses the sensitive topics that teenagers have to encounter far too often.
