In Jingle Bell Justice by Nancy Basile, web traffic analyst Robin Pearce finds herself in a tight spot after moving back to her small West Virginia hometown, River Sutton. She is trying to get a digital marketing business off the ground and is seeing her high school crush, Sheriff Chris Payne. Money is very tight, so she heads over to Cardinal Cottage—the Victorian bed-and-breakfast run by her sister Jenn and sister-in-law Deb—to help out during their big inaugural weekend for wealthy Pittsburgh guests. Things go south fast when a high-profile tech CEO, Alaina Sands, gets into a public shouting match with Deb. The next morning, Alaina’s body is found in the property’s shallow backyard pond. Because of the fight and damning forensic clues, Chris has to arrest Deb, forcing Robin to launch her own investigation to clear her family’s name before the real killer strikes again. Will Robin find the truth before the entire holiday weekend falls apart?
Nancy Basile delivers a fun, festive, amateur sleuth novel in Jingle Bell Justice, creating a vivid small-town atmosphere that instantly wraps you up in holiday decorations and intoxicating drama. The suspect pool is small, forcing you to constantly re-evaluate who had the most to lose when the tech executive died. Watching Robin piece together the evidence while navigating her relationship with Chris, the sheriff, keeps the stakes high without losing the cozy tone. The plot moves along at a lively pace, dropping clever breadcrumbs about hidden financial problems and complex personal histories among the high-society guests. Every character at the inn has a secret to protect, which makes the finger-pointing very entertaining. It’s a quick, engaging mystery that balances small-town gossip with a fascinating investigation. If you want a clean, holiday-themed whodunit to enjoy by the fire on a cold evening, this one is an excellent choice.
