The Razaan are strong and fearless creatures who live beneath the ocean waves of Alataran. Raalumus is not only a Razaan but the son of a powerful military leader who serves with the King’s most elite warriors. So it's quite surprising that Raalumus, the son of a great warrior, is thin, slightly built, and weak in the eyes of his people. Driven to flee his home and everything he loves, Raalumus begins a journey on a merchant vessel in a bid to earn glory and honor for himself and his people. Unbeknownst to him, he will be facing life-threatening situations that will test his endurance and strength. Will Raalumus still want fame when he discovers what it truly entails? Rise of Courage by R.J. Knight is perfect for lovers of action-packed fantasy and adventure.
I want a sequel! Rise of Courage involves not only breathtaking action and magic but also profound revelations about fame, courage, love, sacrifice, and discrimination. From a lightning-covered sword to monstrous creatures that can rip one's lifeforce from one's body and merfolk with sharp claws and teeth, Rise of Courage is brimming with fantastical elements and beings that colored my imagination and had me fully satisfied. Raalumus's personality is depicted so well and deeply that he felt like a close friend. Unlike stories that show their heroes to be fearless and gifted, Rise of Courage's hero felt more relatable and real because of his flaws and fears. Even the concept of heroism is painted in a different light. R.J. Knight's book is a perfect blend of depth and thrills. I enjoyed it so much that I want to read more stories about this hero.
