If you are looking for a romance with drama and suspense, Sacrifices Beyond Kingdoms by Patricia D’Arcy Laughlin is a great pick. Relying on emotionally charged conversations and fast-paced scenes, the author tossed me into the gilded, yet troubled world of a fascinating cast. The attention paid to details made the scenes vivid and cinematic. It made me feel like I was next to the cast in every scene, closely watching as they played out. I could feel the desire, passion, tension, rage, and fear in the narration. I found Elizabeth intriguing, and her complex nature revealed a lot about women. While intelligent, assertive, and strong, navigating an emotional labyrinth makes her both unpredictable and vulnerable. Her unwavering love and fierce protectiveness of her children display the power of maternal instinct. This page turner is a standalone read and an incredible second installment in the series. I loved it.
