Sand Castle by Ayami Tyndall is a book about the bizarre incidents that happen in the lives of innocent people. Dylan Quale is on the receiving end of some strange phone calls which tell him about mysterious prophecies. They are all distorted prophecies which makes him realize that the world is facing difficult times and the question of survival is becoming more and more problematic. He will now have to challenge all those strange prophecies and carve a route for himself.
The story is exciting, full of mystery and adventure and that makes it fast paced. I only wished that the book was thicker and it had more pages to read because it ended too quickly. The author's style is simple and elegant and the narration is very effective to create the intended tension in the reader's mind. Dylan's character is etched very well. His fear, curiosity, eagerness to help - all these feelings are captured and described effectively.
Sand Castle is a current day story. It speaks about the state of the world where people are in a flux, not knowing how to react to the happenings and misfortunes around them. There is a sense of eeriness in the events described. Dylan finds himself in the midst of a reality that is slowly disappearing. Will he be able to challenge it? Will his belief in free will enable him to rise above the workings of fate? Will his final choice be the right one? An excellent science fiction novel filled with suspense that leaves the reader wanting more.
