In Saving Scarlett: Survivor & Savior Duet by C. A. Varian, Scarlett Prejean's life should have been the envy of many. She is beautiful, owns a coffee shop, and loves literature. But her marriage is in tatters, and her abusive husband wants her dead. When her husband, Joshua, hires Bane, a ruthless assassin bound by a sinister code, he expects to get Scarlett out of his life. Bane knows he has a job to do, and he does it well. But when he meets Scarlett, her vulnerability and beauty disarm him. He knows he must protect her, and yet it is against his code. Now, a growing attraction binds them. Can Scarlett love a man who is a known killer, and can Bane protect her from herself and the enemies that are after them?
Saving Scarlett is a suspenseful romance with twists that readers won’t see coming. C. A. Varian’s captivating novel stands out from your run-of-the-mill romance. The fascinating first-person narrative voice instantly pulls you in, and the imagery is stunning. The plot will have you riveted and the character development is superb. Bane and Scarlett are richly drawn characters, but I loved the Phantom, whose presence creates the suspense and unpredictability that moves the plot forward. Phantom emerges as a mysterious and enigmatic figure, known to Bane but primarily kept at bay by Scarlett, who opts for a deliberate ignorance of his activities. Phantom's presence looms large, increasing the already palpable suspense of the story. His influence on Bane's decisions and their cryptic interactions hint at a more profound connection, one that is fraught with danger and intrigue. Saving Scarlett is cleverly plotted, and the author has a unique gift for crafting endearing characters while building complex scenes. It is a delightful romance that will keep readers turning the pages.
