Carolyn Blish’s Sea Oats and Sand Pails: A Child's Day of Wonder captures the amazing beauty of nature through wonderful illustrations that preserve delightful and tranquil moments. The sing-song verses follow the activities of children and wildlife on the beach. They wonder at the movements of the waves of the ocean, the velvety touch of wet sand, the cry of the seagulls and the splendor of the moon. The book is written from a child’s eyes, inviting us into their imagination, curiosity, and sense of wonder at small but magical experiences. The illustrations comprise watercolor and digital images created with soft tones that further accentuate the impact of the sublime episodes in this book.

Sea Oats and Sand Pails: A Child's Day of Wonder by Carolyn Blish inspires the imagination. The children show a beautiful connection to nature, including the animals around them. They observe everything around them as they seek to learn from the environment and discover new things. They also bond with one another through engaging games. The images show the children bonding with their parents, which reveals an opportunity for families to connect by exploring nature together. The rhyming words create a melody such that verses can be read aloud while the hue of background colors reflects the beauty of the scenes. Since the book is written from a child’s perspective, it ignites the child within that seeks to learn. Sea Oats and Sand Pails: A Child's Day of Wonder is full of divine moments.

Can't wait to gift this to my young niece and nephew! This gorgeous book imagines a single day of beach adventure from a child's perspective. Each colorful page is a treat with oversize illustrations of children, waves, shells, seagulls, sandcastles, ice cream, and family having fun together. Whimsical rhymes with each scene are fun to read aloud and remind us of God's presence in nature and in family bonds. The day ends with a lovely sunset and "thank you, Lord, for listening." Just the kind of book you want to read with little ones. Hope to see more from this artist/author.
