Searching for Full: How GLP-1s Changed My Eating-Disordered Life by Paige Gordon is a memoir that traces many years of bulimia nervosa, beginning in childhood and tangled up with trauma, family strain, and years of treatments that never quite worked. The book opens with an unusually direct note to the reader, warning that the pages ahead contain frank material. From there, across thirty chapters with titles like "The Punctual Werewolf" and "The Cost of Looking Fine," Gordon walks through her attempts at psychotherapy, inpatient care, and medication that repeatedly failed, before an unexpected response to a GLP-1 medication finally interrupts the cycle in a way nothing else had. A clinical foreword frames her story within real, unresolved gaps in eating disorder research, grounding her personal account in a larger medical conversation. This is a memoir written less to inspire than to tell the truth plainly, including the parts that resist a tidy resolution.

Paige Gordon writes with a clear-eyed, unflinching honesty that never reaches melodrama, letting chapter titles like "Confessions of a Well-Dressed Weapon" carry real weight without over-explaining themselves. The pacing spans decades but never drags, moving steadily through the accumulation of failed treatments to the eventual turning point. The author's willingness to share the discomfort of her own story rather than smoothing it into something instructional gives the memoir rare credibility. The theme threading through every chapter is that recovery can be nonlinear and imperfect and still count as real, feeling honest rather than aspirational. I appreciated that Gordon frames her medical response as one data point rather than a universal answer, a distinction few memoirs handle responsibly. Searching for Full is a courageous, candid account for readers ready to tackle a difficult, unresolved story.
