Without any other options left to her, Amie Richardson decides to accept a nanny position, figuring that although she has no real life experience, she's pregnant so this stuff should come naturally to her. Besides, she's got nowhere left to go. An orphan herself, she has spent years alone and lonely. The position is on the continent, and takes her away from cold and rainy Ireland to the sunny climes in Spain. Life should be infinitely better for her, but she soon finds out that it isn't. Enter Dr. Sam...an abortionist who has his designs set on Amie's unborn baby. She's got to fight him and his plans, and returns home - but will she be safe with the Sisters of Mercy, whom she runs to for help? Marian Phair creates a compelling and mysterious novel with Shattered Lives, the story of a young girl out of options, struggling for her unborn baby's life as well as her own.

Although it is over three hundred pages, I finished this in two days because I just couldn't stop. I was reading it on the metro, in the park during lunch, and in between meetings at work. Talk about your nail biter! It was thrilling in a way that kept your adrenaline at a steady incline, rather than stops and starts and bursts every now and again. The whole story builds upon itself until you find yourself putting off dinner just to get through a few more pages. I definitely recommend Shattered Lives, and will be looking out for more from Marian Phair soon!

I read this in a day as I was immediately taken in from the first page! I didn't want to put it down, i couldn't put it down!! Every character is brilliantly written and have their own unique personality pulling you in to find out more, following each of them on their journey, especially Amie who has so many life altering events in her rollercoaster life. Many of these events nobody should endure! Well done on a brilliant first novel!

Brilliant

This is a fantastic read! I read it in less than a week, I literally couldn't put it down. Marian Phair is a brilliant author and I look forward with eager anticipation to her next book. I loved the twists and turns the book had to offer and felt I actually knew the characters. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends. A great read from start to finish, so many highs and lows, I laughed and cried, it touched on so many emotions. I couldn't wait to turn the page to see what was coming next. Marian is up there with the long established writers, you wouldn't think this was her first publication it's so well written. Keep up the good work.

just finished reading Shattered lives by marian phair. It is a brilliant first novel by the author. The book does not let you down throughout it keeps you wanting to know what happens next to Amie. How much anguish and painful truths she has to confront and how all the other people are linked in her rollercoaster life. The book takes you inside the characters minds especially of the sick and evil Dr Sam. On reading the book I felt I was there throughout and it all seemed so real. A very impressive first novel that I would recommend to everyone to read and hope that the author will be writing her second book soon.

This book has it all, it draws you in and keeps you there. You get a feeling of closeness to Amie and go on the journey with her. I really enjoyed reading this book and didn't want to put it down. I will be looking out for the author's next novel, and if it's half as good as this book it will be an excellant read.
