In Silly Sam The Elf by Angela Lindsey, we are introduced to an elf who not only loves his job making toys for the children of the world, but he also loves to make his fellow elves laugh and have a good time. That is how he got the nickname Silly Sam. One day he thought it would be funny to try on Santa’s red suit, but when his appearance began to change, he realized that he had put on something magical meant only for Santa. When he was caught, Santa wasn’t upset but instead told Sam that he needed his help now passing out toys to children all over the world since part of the suit's magic stayed with Sam. After their journey, Santa gives Sam an amazing gift that he’ll never forget.

I thought Silly Sam the Elf was an adorable Christmas read that put me in such a cheery mood. I love Sam’s character and how he always clowned around, but also how he loved to bring joy by making his fellow elves laugh. Santa being a forgiving boss also shows that even big mistakes can be forgiven and fixed. The illustrations are also beautifully done and fit perfectly with the storyline. Angela Lindsey has done a great job in creating a new and unique Christmas tale that is unlike any others I have come across so far. Kids will love it and so will their parents. It’s a book I would recommend this holiday season.

Sam is one of Santa’s elves. He likes to make people and elves laugh. That’s how he got his name, Silly Sam. But sometimes being silly can go too far and get you into trouble. One Christmas Eve, Silly Sam leaves his work preparing toys for children and wanders off to find something he can do that’s different and even sillier than his previous pranks. He finds Santa’s special suit hanging unattended. He thinks it would be great fun to wear Santa’s suit, even if only for a few minutes. He tries it on, but it’s too big. He stuffs toys into it to fill it out and that’s when the magic starts to happen. And Silly Sam turns into Santa – well, almost. Has he stolen Santa’s magic by wearing Santa’s suit? Do you think he’ll get in trouble when Santa finds out?

Angela Lindsey’s picture book story, Silly Sam the Elf: A Christmas Story Book Filled with Magic, is a fun story for young readers. Told in simple language so young readers can follow along and using multiple creative fonts to make the text interesting, the plot moves through Silly Sam’s antics as he leads up to the big prank, the climax, and the resulting resolution when Santa finds out. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and full of life and fun – spectacular. This is a gem of a story that young readers will enjoy during the magical Christmas season and perhaps even all year long. It’s filled with love and silliness, fun and entertainment, as well as being educational in the repercussions one might confront if one becomes too silly. Loved the story.
