Six Paws Under: Psychic Sleuths and Talking Dogs by Max Parrott is the seventh book in the Jaz and Luffy Cozy Mystery series. Jaz and Luffy have started a new Private Detective business and now they're taking on a new challenge: a televised game show. With their business new and in need of funding, they're determined to win the game and use the money to keep their business going. Jaz has eleven other competitors and not all of them want her around, but she didn't think one would result in murder. There are clues to seek and a hidden treasure to uncover, but Jaz knows she and Luffy have what it takes to win and their skills are good enough to be the best. Can Jaz and Luffy catch a killer and win a game show?
Each mystery gets better as Max Parrott explores new settings and more humorous ways for Jaz and Luffy to solve mysteries. The settings for the Jaz and Luffy mysteries tend to be fun and amusing such as winter carnivals and cruises backdrops. Parrott takes the settings a step further with an exciting background of a competition game show that's being televised and gives Jaz a shot at winning money to put into her business. The setting is of a game show with a mystery within a mystery as she searches for clues to lead to a treasure while searching for a killer. The reality television element is woven into the story with snotty competitors that don't seem to want her there and the disturbing dream that shakes her from a competitive streak into sleuthing mode. The mystery has various layers to it with the game show, the overly competitive contestants, one of the contestants going missing, a cheater, and the discovery of a body found in the dirt.
This is a fun story that doubles her search for clues and has a humorous aspect in searching for the body when it mysteriously disappears. Each mystery has created another part of her journey as Jaz has settled into a budding sleuth, proudly using her abilities to help others. The different elements of the mystery create an upbeat, witty, and quirky plot with a blend of a televised game show, suspicious competitors, and a disappearing body, which makes Six Paws Under another charming and delightful installment of the series.
