Slipper Has a New Home by Tess Rixen is a sweet story about Slipper, the cat, getting a new home. When he arrives, he looks around his new home and finds everything that he needs. While looking out the window, he sees the green grass and wants to explore. After finding his way outside, Slipper enjoys the sunshine and fresh air. When a large dog appears, there is a moment of tension, but soon we see that Slipper has found a new friend. As they romp and play together, it is clear that Slipper has not only found a new home, but he has found a place where he can be safe, happy, accepted and loved.
Tess Rixen has given us a charming children's book that kids will love to read over and over again. The illustrations are wonderful and allow children to sit and experience the book and story with pictures alone. The young reader and even the non-reader can enjoy this book while waiting for mom and dad to sit down and read. Tess Rixen has used Slipper, the adorable cat, to teach a lesson of change. Slipper found a new family, a new home, and new friends. Things might change, but there is no reason to be afraid as long as you have people who care about you. This is a fun story, well written, and well illustrated with a lesson easy enough for children to grasp and understand.
