Author Biography

Rachael H Dixon lives in the cold and windy northeast of England. She craves sunlight and warmth, and as such her skin is so white it's almost translucent.

She's been writing ever since she could hold, albeit strangely, a pen. Her love for the macabre stems from reading James Herbert novels and watching Vincent Price films when she was small.

As well as writing, Rachael loves reading, walking the dog (her own, not just anybody's), drinking red wine and Gil Elvgren art work. And she often wonders whether she's the only writer in the whole world who doesn't like coffee.

Libby is having a bad day. That tends to happen when you are run over and killed. She finds herself in the perplexing Sunray Bay with her dog Rufus, who now has her soul. No one seems to know what to do in this seaside resort, but it soon becomes clear the donkey man is trying to kill Libby - again. Escaping from him she bumps into the unemotional and mysterious Grim, who appears to have an idea about what is going on. He unwillingly takes Libby to see Gloria and gradually Libby finds out what is actually happening in Sunray Bay. She needs a soul to be able to pass on to the next place, wherever that is. Souls are assessed in Sunray Bay. The slippery souls are the abnormal ones that are a little trickier to deal with. Like Libby’s.

But how does Libby being in Sunray Bay connect to the ghastly murders that have taken place back in the living world at the penitentiary, which Mayor Krain investigates. And why is Krain so interested in her, even though she is dead? The creepy Krain is definitely not what he appears to be. This is a quirky novel, very cleverly thought out, that gives a new take on the paranormal scene with its vampires and werewolves and other supernatural beings. There is a fascinating cast of characters, with Rufus the talking dog surely being everyone’s favourite! You can’t predict what will happen next in this tantalizing and slightly surreal novel which touches on many emotions, running the whole gamut from hatred and intolerance to love.
