Songs From the Heart by YS Reffitt follows the story of Rayna as she tries to live her life on her terms. Rayna is not your typical girl; she has heart disease, and she frequently battles depression. While this has made her mother a little too protective, her condition only encourages Rayna to fight harder. Even if her heart is not strong enough, that doesn’t stop her from living to the fullest. However, things take a more serious turn when she meets Nick. Nick is a singer in a local band, and he is everything Rayna wants. When they meet, sparks fly, and they are drawn to each other but nothing could have prepared them for what will happen next.
From the moment I start reading Songs From The Heart, I figured Rayna is panicking and trying to get a hold of her life. She feels out of control because of her heart condition, and Rayna wants to take control of at least one aspect of her life. YS Reffitt creates perfect situations and scenarios that we can expect to happen in real life. Rayna is very human and very real to me. Her reactions and emotions resonated with me, and I could imagine why she suddenly turns into a daredevil who just wants her heart to beat fast. Nick is the perfect companion for her, and they complement each other well. Anna is the voice of reason for Rayna, but she is always there to support Rayna even through her dumbest ideas. The story has the right amount of drama, humor, and devastation to balance everything. I loved it.
