Author Biography

Thuan Doan is an award-winning author of the Sophia Freeman series. He conceived his first middle-grade fantasy novel, Sophia Freeman and the Mysterious Fountain, during a trip to Gabriola Island, British Columbia in the summer of 2013. Then he took his work and settled in a small town of Enderby, where it’s peaceful and quiet. 4 years later, the story was complete. While book one, two, three and four are being shared with the world, he's writing and illustrating the last book of the series.

Thuan is writing under a pen name of T.X. Troan. “X” stands for Xu, his grandmother’s name who passed away. And “Troan” is a combination of his parents' names.

“No matter how this turns out, I want my family to be a part of this wonderful journey.”

Sophia Freeman and the Era of Darkness by T.X. Troan is the story of a young girl named Sophia who lives on the magical Pandilone Island. Tombermon, a former Guardian leader, cast an Eternal Curse on the island, which has left the village of magical creatures sick and dying. It is up to Sophia, The Chosen One, to save the island. Sophia needs to reverse the curse, and the only way to do so is to free Tombermon from the Forbidden Land where he is trapped so he can reverse the spell willingly, or they will have to fight him to force his hand. Sophia and her friends of humans and creatures go on a magical and scary adventure to find the required ingredients so they can cast the Dream Spell and contact her father to send a task force to help them save Pandilone Island.

Sophia Freeman and the Era of Darkness by T.X. Troan is an adventurous and fascinating story about Sophia and her friends, Tim and Allen. They brave the unknown using magic to try to save Pandilone Island. All three characters have great personal demons to fight. Allen must fight his insecurity, Tim his temper, and Sophia her fear that she doesn’t have what it takes to be the Chosen One. Despite these inadequacies, they persist in their efforts, resulting in an imaginative and mystical adventure. The story is action-packed and suspenseful and takes a few surprising turns that I didn’t see coming. I look forward to discovering whether they could save Pandilone Island in the next book.
