Stanley, The Seal Of Approval is a children’s animal book written by Stan Resnicoff. The hero of the story realized that he was lonely and really wanted a pet, but figuring out just what kind of pet he wanted was a difficult task. He considered getting a dog but thought better of that decision; he thought about a cat or a hamster, or a reptile. Nothing seemed right. Then he went to the pet store and the storekeeper had a totally different suggestion. There in a cage was a seal. Our hero was thrilled with the idea of having a seal for a pet and paid the storekeeper. He promptly named the seal Stanley, the Seal of Approval. The two new friends had a marvelous time together and seemed to agree on just about everything; they even slept in the same bed together. One day, however, our hero realized he had no money left, and he talked about it with Stanley, who suggested a day at the beach. Once they got there, Stanley, the Seal of Approval, saved the day in more ways than one.
Stan Resnicoff’s children’s picture book, Stanley, The Seal Of Approval, is a disarming and entertaining story about a lonely man who finds his best friend in a pet store. But it’s not the type of pet most people ordinarily look for - he finds Stanley, a seal, and the two of them have a brilliant time together. I loved the brightly colored and whimsical panels that accompany the text and enjoyed the clever rhymes that comprise the story. This story has an adventure and a thrilling plot as the two friends go off to the beach that makes this picture book feel like it’s much more than the typical children’s storybook. It’s perfect for read-aloud story time, but the simplicity of the text and the descriptive illustrations make it ideal for a new reader to try on their own. Stanley, The Seal Of Approval is highly recommended.
