Author Biography

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Mary graduated from DePaul University, with a degree in Biological Sciences and Psychology. A natural love of science and a desire to help others prompted her to continue her postgraduate education in Physical Therapy, completing the program at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical.
Mary’s professional experiences encompass a variety of clinical care settings, including acute care, outpatient clinics, orthopedic clinic management and curriculum development and instruction for a Physical Therapy Assistant program.
In her practice, Mary witnessed an alarming increase in chronic pain and many conditions that seemed poorly understood and managed; many were preventable and reversible. Because of personal health challenges, she searched for answers that were absent from the disease-focused medical model of care, which focuses predominately on symptom suppression and less on underlying root causes. This led to a whole-hearted pursuit of root cause and lifestyle medicine.
Mary has shifted her current clinical practice toward the integration of nutrition, lifestyle, and the critical mind-body connection for healing and disease prevention.
She is an author and speaker, teaching classes on Managing Pain, Prevention of Osteoporosis, Muscle Health, and Fitness. She is the owner of Integrated Physical Therapy and Wellness in Phoenix, Arizona. She has recently published her first book, an Amazon Bestseller in 5 categories.
Mary enjoys lifelong learning, writing, teaching, hiking, swimming, traveling, and spending time with her husband and family.

Staying Healthy Living Longer: 7 Powerful Principles for a Healthier You! by Mary Dicaro, PT, is a much-needed book on staying fit. As the author has completed multiple certifications at several institutes and worked as a therapist, her advice should not be taken lightly. Rather than following the old adage that pain and sickness come with aging, Mary argues that there are ways to maintain your health. Outlining seven strategies that everyone can use to age gracefully, Mary emphasizes the importance of curiosity and passion in learning about healthier habits and maintaining a healthy stress level.

Considering how the global pandemic has reminded us to take more precautions with our health, Staying Healthy Living Longer could not have come at a more opportune time. While heavily relying on science, the book masterfully walks the fine line between providing irrefutable evidence for its main points and using too many scientific terms for the average reader. I greatly appreciated how Mary Dicaro weaves in several memorable quotes that further illustrate her arguments. I also loved how the book was organized, as I found it easy to look for a specific part when I read it for the second time. By reading this book, I realized the importance of having a correct sleeping schedule. This lesson was difficult for me as a university student since I often had to sleep late to finish all my assignments. For anyone looking for ways to improve their overall health and extra motivation to maintain their fitness, you cannot possibly go wrong with this book!
