Rob wishes to earn money quickly due to his unfortunate circumstances, which have left him with insufficient income. Rob and his wife, Ann, are poorer than most people they know and work for. Their children, Matt and Marisol, must deal with this fact every day. Rob is under pressure due to their mounting bills. He decides to participate in the illegal activity of cock fighting. He remains optimistic despite the risks. Meanwhile, Marisol, Rob’s beautiful teenage daughter, must deal with relationship woes. Even his young son, Matt, is having a tough time at school. El Guapo Lives! by M. K. McQueenie is about how everything changes the day Rob brings home El Guapo, a cock bred to fight. But things do not work out as planned.
El Guapo Lives! by M. K. McQueenie is one of the best stories I have read, with numerous exciting, nail-biting moments. The story contains many scenes of tragedy and grief due to hostility resulting from their poverty. The twists in the story that developed so unexpectedly were fantastic. One of the most frightening aspects of the plot is how the family constantly teetered on the brink of losing their home. I felt anxious for all the characters due to the author's remarkable ability to allow us to see through each character's eyes. The drama was non-stop. The pain that each character endured was intense. The best part was how the story ended. It was magnificent. It was one of hope, triumph, and ultimately relief that everything was going to work out.
