Sweet ‘n’ Sour by Kara Eng is a heartwarming children's book set in the magical Kingdom Kandy, where a candy shop owner named Almond Cookie creates the most popular and delicious candies. Her shop becomes the talk of the town thanks to her secret recipes, including candies that refresh breath, change flavors, and even heal allergies. But things take a turn when Mr. Sour, the jealous owner of a rival candy shop, sabotages her business by ruining her candy with soy sauce. Known for her unique and mouthwatering creations, Almond Cookie's perseverance and faith are tested as she navigates a difficult situation with creativity and grace. This heartwarming tale combines a touch of magic with valuable lessons about resilience, faith, and turning challenges into opportunities.

I loved how Sweet ‘n’ Sour beautifully combines a whimsical setting with meaningful life lessons. The plot is simple yet engaging, with just the right amount of conflict to keep readers interested. The pacing is perfect for young readers, moving quickly while allowing the story to unfold naturally. Almond Cookie is an inspiring protagonist who approaches her challenges with faith and creativity, and I appreciated the way Mr. Sour's character provides a clear contrast to her positivity. Kara Eng carefully integrated the message that even when someone intends to harm, God can use that situation to bring about a positive result. Sweet ‘n’ Sour also teaches that God's plan may be different from what is expected. The themes of trusting in God, staying resilient, and finding creative solutions are seamlessly woven into the story, making it both entertaining and thought-provoking. The illustrations by Maryna Nesterchuk and magical candy creations add a fun and imaginative element that kids will enjoy.
