One Taste of Euphoria by Robert A. Walker follows Marshal Erik Carson as he tries to untangle the remaining mysteries surrounding the Takers’ Guild. With Ruler Three still elusive and a fortune missing, Carson must follow the clues left behind by the Guild while trying to understand the strange events surrounding its surviving members. Meanwhile, Sibil Dunn, known as the Wisperal, is struggling to move beyond the violence and loss that have shaped her life. As she grows closer to the grieving young knight Tristan Godfrey, she finds herself helping him cope with increasingly severe headaches and unsettling changes in his abilities. When threats against the kingdom continue, attacks put lives at risk, and the search for the Guild’s treasure leads to more unexpected discoveries, Carson, Sibil, and their allies must confront unfinished business that could change their lives and the future of Baelon.
I enjoyed how One Taste of Euphoria by Robert A. Walker combines fantasy, mystery, action, and emotional moments without relying entirely on battles and danger to keep things interesting. The world of Baelon is rich and imaginative, with its own customs and unusual details that make the setting enjoyable to explore. I particularly liked the way Sibil and Tristan’s relationship develops as they deal with grief and their own personal struggles. Their quieter moments bring warmth to a story filled with uncertainty, while the marshal’s investigation adds another layer of suspense. I appreciated the way the story explores the consequences of past events rather than simply moving on from them, allowing the characters to grow and face the things they have been trying to escape. There is plenty happening throughout the book, and at times, the number of characters and details can make the story a little demanding to follow, but I found the layered plot and the balance between action and character development rewarding. Overall, this is an engaging fantasy adventure that keeps readers curious about what will happen next.
