Author Aaron Ryan concludes the epic Talisman saga with its final installment, Halcyon. Liam "Foxy" Mayfield, the last Iskander, Onyx Sleater, the powerful Nexus, and Arion Peridifyca, the Zorander, are united in their fight against the dreaded Asterium Axis. With 743 scattered souls all over the multiverse, empowered as Iskanders, the trio must travel to attend the Great Convocation on Proxima Cetuary b. Meanwhile, Arion teaches Liam about the ways of the Karisant. However, as Liam and Onyx's feelings for each other grow, jealousy drives a wedge into the trio, splitting Arion up on his home world. Now, Liam, Onyx, and the rest of the Iskanders must find the primer to locate the whereabouts of the Asterium Axis. But first, they must destroy Drillaris, the Grievefiend.

Talisman: Halcyon is an action-packed ending to an epic space opera saga. Author Aaron Ryan spins a fast-paced yarn laced with thrilling battle sequences, immersive romance, and a healthy dose of sci-fi elements. The worldbuilding is grander on scale than pretty much any other science fiction book I've read this year. It's not just the faraway worlds and galaxies that this book features, but also the multiverse and all it entails. The three main protagonists were the highlight of the book for me. Liam, Onyx, and Arion are a lively trio, with distinct personality traits and agency of their own. I enjoyed the partnership of Liam and Onyx, but also found Arion to be a very complicated character with shades of grey. Overall, it's a fantastic novel for sci-fi fans.

Talisman: Halcyon by Aaron Ryan is the conclusion of the epic Talisman series, a character-driven sci-fi series with elements of cosmic war, love, grief, trust, and betrayal. Liam Mayfield and Arion Peridifyca both lose their beloved counterparts, but are promised that they will be returned if they save a thousand lives. They learn that they have been betrayed and were only pawns for an alien race, called the Aeterium Axis. Liam and Arion unite with hundreds of other beings from different planets, who suffered the same fate under the Axis's power, to find them and bring an end to the evil they inflict on the omniverse. Among these warriors is Soteria, an elegant, enigmatic, and powerful female to whom Liam and Arion are both drawn. Their fiery passion threatens to tear their focus and alliance apart. Can they find and fight the Aeterium Axis for the good of the omniverse, or will jealousy get the better of them?

Talisman: Halcyon is portrayed from a first-person perspective and alternates between the points of view of Liam, Arion, and Soteria. This makes the story feel more personal, and I truly felt, at times, that it was as much my adventure as it was theirs. I felt drawn into the story, and this was quite brilliant. The characters are well-defined and strong, and, especially through their dialogue, are authentic and multi-layered. The action scenes are very well portrayed, with bits of action dialogue that make them truly come alive. Aaron Ryan is a very talented writer, and the story also deals with deep and important themes. Both Liam and Arion suffer grief over their loved ones, and they long for Soteria, both seeing their lost counterparts in her. But is this love or illusion? An exhilarating and action-packed sci-fi that captures the imagination from the first page to the last.

Aaron Ryan’s Talisman: Halcyon is set in 2062, when Liam joins Arion in a pursuit across the multiverse to locate the hidden Aeterium Axis, an unseen force influencing entire systems through distributed talismans linked by an energy network called the Karisant. Alongside Onyx, who now exists as Soteria with expanded abilities, they move between worlds to alert others and prepare resistance while uncovering how their powers function. That is, until their mission changes when a missing talisman opens up Axis’s location, requiring a coordinated effort among hundreds of Iskanders. As they advance, Arion’s past actions resurface during a return to his home world, triggering events that disrupt the group’s stability and alter the path forward. The trio must adapt to shifting alliances, new capabilities, and an expanding conflict that extends across time and multiple realities.

Aaron Ryan’s Talisman is a special breed of science fiction by an author who has a clear confidence in its architecture, building a fantastic universe where every rule governing time, movement, and identity is totally visible. What distinguishes Ryan's storytelling is the disciplined way that his multiverse remains deeply entrenched in its humanity. Liam’s commitment to duty never loses sight of what awaits him on Earth, and that warm, heartening center is what keeps its larger cosmic design grounded in a way that readers can relate to. Onyx is the most fascinating character to me, adding a hyper-layer of intelligence to the ensemble and making her expanded perception feel organic to key decision-making. The barren burial fields of 47 Ursae Majoris b leave one of the strongest visual impressions, lending the story one of many cinematic senses of place. Readers who are hungry for exceptional speculative fiction will devour Talisman.
