To keep her new friends safe from a shadow monster called the Moon Gobbler, Shelly has to stand up to dark illusions that sound exactly like her worst fears. Talk Me a Story about Moon Rabbit by Michelle Myers is an inspiring middle-grade fantasy overflowing with imagination and pride in one’s culture. Myers writes in a gentle, inviting way, creating a gorgeous night sky world full of glowing moonflowers and starlight blessings that feels like a safe space to explore. It was very sweet to watch Shelly grow as a person, especially when she learns to honor her mother’s past by using traditional folk songs like Arirang to find her true voice. I love that the story explores deep ideas on peace and forgiveness, showing young readers that even a tricky fox or a lonely shadow monster can turn things around and learn to heal. Myers’ artwork adds a lovely visual touch, making it a delightful journey for kids. It is a really captivating tale for kids who want a magical adventure about learning to love exactly who they are.
