Now THIS is a unique science fiction book! Thawing A.C. Nielsen by Paul Carey is a modern day science fiction tale that harkens back to the '80s and '90s interest in cryonics. Remember the cryogenic freezing craze that took place then, when people escaped death by freezing themselves until the future held a cure for their diseases? Well, it's time to wake up, and Kate and her team of scientists at Exit Strategy, a quiet Chicago firm in cryonics, believe the future is now. When Kate deciphers her predecessor's files, she believes she holds the key to waking clients up and giving them back their lives - but as usual, things don't go as planned, and she finds herself stumbling over obstacles and unexpected issues that her predecessor was on the verge of discovering before his own untimely death.

If you're sick of the dystopian craze taking over sci-fi, then I highly recommend Thawing A.C. Nielsen. This is a great book filled with plenty of science, plenty of comedy, and even a bit of music to keep things connected and in a not-too-serious mood. Paul Carey did a great job researching this book, and presents concepts that are thoroughly researched but not overly complicated. The book takes a comic turn when they thaw their first human - A.C. Nielsen - but it's a welcome turn that fits the pieces together, gives the book an extra "human" element, and even brings a bit of mystery into the mix. All in all, this is a great book. We need more sci-fi like this!
