What could be more fun than kittens? Kittens, home alone! The Adventures of Chibi and Yoshi by Kristi Shimada, with illustrations by Eko Setiawan, is a delightful picture book that will appeal to kids, and indeed to all cat lovers. It tells the story of two kittens whose human parents have gone out shopping and left the screen door partly open by mistake. This brings a stream of visitors into the house, but luckily for the kittens, they are all friendly ones. All the friends from outdoors are intensely curious about the kittens’ toys. They have a wonderful time playing together, but take care not to leave a mess behind. And when the parents come home, they find the two little kittens sitting innocently at the bottom of the stairs, waiting for them.
There’s so much to love about The Adventures of Chibi and Yoshi by Kristi Shimada. The lively illustrations by Eko Setiawan perfectly capture the unique personalities of the cats and their friends. There are many more critters living outdoors who may appear in future stories. For me, almost the best thing is that Chibi and Yoshi are based on the real cats who live with Shimada. The book has many extras besides the story, so kids and grown-ups can spend more time in this enchanted world. There are fun facts about cats, many of which were new to me. Kids will also enjoy the puzzle, pictures they can color, a letter from the real Chibi and Yoshi, and photos of them with their toys.
