Emmy the Christmas Hen by Marian Gardner is a picture book for young readers. It's Christmas time, and Emmy the hen is looking for a way to keep her sisters warm during the winter. Suddenly, Emmy remembers that her friend can make clothes. She visits her friend Rosie and asks her politely if she’ll make her sisters something to keep warm. Rosie is a good friend and happily agrees. After visiting another friend, they approach a problem: there isn’t enough wool for everyone. What will Emmy and her friends do? Will they continue to freeze in the cold? Or will they find a way around their issue and get to enjoy Christmas all warm and toasty? Find out in this book.

Emmy the Christmas Hen: The Little Hen Who Discovered the Joy of Giving (Soft Feathers, Big Adventures) was a joy to read. Marian Gardner’s book contains a beautiful and uplifting story that will teach children a valuable lesson. Most children are excited to get presents at Christmas, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all, but it is also nice to show them that there’s more to it than that. The gift of giving is the message the author shows in her story, and every word is carefully written and packs a punch when delivering that message. The illustrations by the author are adorable; I had never heard of a silkie chicken before, and I’m glad I now know. I hope to read more heartwarming stories like these from this incredible author. Keep up the amazing work you’re doing, Marian.
