The Adventures of Taya and B: Worms! by Neil and Taylor Moreno is part of a series of children’s books about a young girl named Taya and her adventures with her best friend B (also known as Biscotti) in their backyard in New York’s Hudson Valley. Coming along for the ride is B’s younger brother, named Truffle, and Angel the cat, finishing up the whole charming and adorable ensemble of characters. Right from the start, I was pulled in by the beautiful illustrations by Turine Tran. The pictures reminded me of the children’s books I grew up with so I was captivated immediately.
Neil and Taylor Moreno have created a simple but compelling story about Taya going outside with B to spend the afternoon looking for worms. The tale expertly captures the personality of sweet, gentle B versus the rough and tumble Truffle with their quaint doggy mannerisms. They have quite distinctive qualities, which as any pet owner knows, are utterly irresistible. Not only will children be entertained by the dogs, but they will be delighted by the adventures that are introduced in each story. Readers will also be educated about the type of breed B and Truffles belong to along with what it means to rescue animals like Angel the cat. Everything about this children’s book was flawless, from the many tales of Taya and B in the yard with the multitude of colors across the pages to the funny characters of the dogs. The Adventures of Taya and B will surely become a popular series.
