Sacred Lessons from My Son: Encountering God in Everyday Moments of Parenting by Christopher J. Stanley shows how children can be spiritual teachers, helping adults develop a deeper relationship with God. The guide explores themes regarding faith, divine presence, and dependence on God. It shows that faith is mostly formed through routines, home settings, and other daily life activities. God patiently develops Stanley’s understanding of obedience, trust, relationships, and grace. The work is organized into six main themes and contains daily reflections and bonus devotional chapters. Stanley explains that faith begins by receiving God’s love and understanding that we belong to Him. He explores how trust in God grows and how we can mature spiritually. He urges readers to recognize God’s work around us and not let distractions blind us. He explains how faith takes shape through our daily decisions and habits. As inner transformation continues, it produces compassion, contentment, joy, and worship.
I loved that the book is packed with charming and familiar family moments. The stories are humorous, and the text is written in a gentle, encouraging tone that lets readers grow at their own pace. The guide can be read and utilized individually or within a community, as it contains outlines for Bible studies, church fellowships, and couple’s groups that encourage reflection and fellowship. The personal testimonies are moving, especially those about healing and the presence of God during times of crisis. I found the text approachable with clear organization and themes. Though it is centered on family life, the guide is also written for those who are single or are non-parents. Its messages about slowing down and being attentive to God’s presence are universal. I also loved Stanley’s nine-year-old son’s personal application challenges. Sacred Lessons from My Son by Christopher J. Stanley is a helpful devotional that encourages spiritual growth through daily experiences.
