The Algorithm of Consciousness is a work of non-fiction in the self-improvement genre and was penned by author Kenneth A. Macfarlane. The book is a deep-digging discussion on the subject of self-awareness and perspective, with essays on topics ranging from the issues present in the world due to a lack of these virtues in the average citizen to the emotional barriers that prevent us from facing the truths that self-awareness presents. The book encourages readers to make positive changes in their lives by raising their level of self-awareness, and using the new perspective this brings to find a meaningful and fulfilling purpose in life.

Author Kenneth A. Macfarlane has crafted a thought-provoking and truly inspirational work for those who are interested in morality, the natural world and the notion of self awareness and self-worth. In terms of its organization and presentation of ideas, the author writes with an authoritative and confident tone which is sure to inspire others, but the work also makes excellent lexical choices for readers who may need a more gentle approach to changing their viewpoint and gaining awareness of themselves, external influences and the importance of our natural world. I found the moral messages to be emboldening, and the reasoning was solidly researched and supported by factual experiences and well-considered philosophical viewpoints. Overall, I would highly recommend The Algorithm of Consciousness to fans of bold calls to action and eye-opening essays that truly can shift your perspective in the right direction. An accomplished work indeed.

Who am I? Have you ever asked yourself that question? It is our God-given right to understand and appreciate who we are at any given moment in time, to have this self-awareness in spite of the many challenges we all face on a daily basis. We, as humans, are complex organisms, much like a mathematical equation, perhaps even like a scientific experiment. As Kenneth A Macfarlane writes: “My body is a metaphoric algorithm: a Temple of Awareness.” To understand ourselves, to come to terms with the ‘who am I’ question, we must understand and appreciate all the complexities of our multi-dimensional makeup as well as the external forces which are constantly changing around us and consequently changing us. “Life is like trying to put a complex jigsaw puzzle together with no accurate picture of the final image. A jigsaw puzzle is a two-dimensional representation of three-dimensional objects. We incarnated into three-dimensional pieces of a multi-dimensional jigsaw. The Godforce constructs our three-dimensional body as an organic algorithm to realize our original purpose and potential for our incarnation.” It’s all about “coming to know ourselves and our environment”.

Kenneth A. Macfarlane’s essays, which are compiled in The Algorithm of Consciousness, lead the reader through the massive complexities of this matrix we call life and how the reader can face them head-on, understand them, and implement them to the best of our abilities into conscious selves. It’s not only essential for our own well-being, but also for the world around us. Our own self-awareness will help us become our full potential in a positive way, one that will benefit both ourselves and our environment. The author begins with a concise introduction of his intent. Each of the essays in his book is well presented with clear goals for the reader to aspire to. In his conclusion, he emphasizes, “Embrace the need to implement a heart-based approach in dealing with all sentient life.” This book is a great tool for self-awareness in a way in which it will not only improve our life but also our position in life and how the world around us interacts with who and what we are. Very thought-provoking and inspirational.
