Some dreams refuse to let go. In The Author's Table by K.L. Lewis, for Deidra, that means becoming a published author. An invitation from a respected publisher in New York seems like the chance she's been waiting for. Instead, she's offered something she never expected. So, she’s left to make some difficult decisions about her future. Should she accept that opportunity or continue trying to write? On that trip to NYC, Deidra meets Miguel, and sparks fly. He works at the hotel and is warm, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. At first, they keep things light. Soon, their relationship becomes something that gives Deidra hope. However, her ex-boyfriend, Gavin, isn't completely out of the picture. And she can’t quite let go of everything they shared. She must decide which path will lead her toward the life she wants. Will Deidra finally see her dreams turn into reality? And what happens when love enters the picture?
The intriguing cover of The Author's Table by K.L. Lewis caught my eye. To me, the notebook, single rose, and city lights hinted at both romance and writing. It’s not fast-paced, yet I couldn’t put it down. The connection between Deidra and Miguel drew me in right away. Gavin brought just enough tension without taking over the story. I could relate to the closeness Deidra had with her father. He always made her feel special. He wanted what was best for her and didn’t crush her dreams. I also appreciated how multicultural the novel was. That will make it easier for people from different backgrounds to find someone to connect with. Lewis balances family, love, and Deidra's determination. Eleanor Roosevelt's words, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams," made me think of Deidra's journey. Anyone looking for women’s fiction or a contemporary romance will want to put this one on their reading list.
