The Bullied Brain: Heal Your Scars and Restore Your Health by Jennifer Fraser, Ph.D., is a cerebral self-help book. Bullying’s impact on our development is explored by doctors and Fraser’s book shows how this harm can be understood and addressed. This includes tons of research and thorough information about our brains, the effect inflicted by abuse and bullying, and how to avoid this. Fraser investigates the bullying epidemic and supposed intolerance, especially related to, and mostly with children. Case studies of both kids and adults, and practical tips to overcome abuse are offered in the second section of The Bullied Brain. The potential for mental health recovery is presented. The book shows how your life and brain can be improved by strengthening this organ as a counterpoint to this systemic abuse, which is cyclical. The pithy Foreword is by Dr. Michael Merzenich, described as "the pioneer of neuroplasticity" (and the brain behind Brain HQ).
Full disclosure: I was bullied as a child. While bullying cannot be erased, the best you can hope for is to overcome it. Someone I know, a victim of bullying as a child, shared how this trauma is harmful even as an adult. I loved Dr. Merzenich’s insightful contributions and his vast knowledge and research. The book will help you to empower your brain to maximize its full potential. The Bullied Brain by Jennifer Fraser, Ph.D. is suitable for all ages. As a graphic designer, I loved the front cover depicting the boxing glove and brain. This alone would make me want to read the book. It is a book that warrants re-reading and highlighting.
