The Darkness is a horror novel by Robbi Sommers Bryant that grips the reader’s attention from the first paragraph. Edward Olson is living a double life nobody suspects. He seems to be the typical young American living the dream after his long-lost grandmother left her fortune to him. He is a charismatic gentleman and Caitlyn Derry, a nurse with a complicated family, is charmed. Little does she know that there is more to Edward than meets the eye. An entity she can’t see haunts him and it urges him to kill. Edward tries to resist the urge to kill the woman he loves, but will he succeed? Will he turn against Caitlyn in the end?
Intrigue, horror, and suspense! The Darkness had me captivated from Edward Olson’s first appearance. Robbi Sommers Bryant has created a masterpiece that constantly had me on the edge of my seat. Edward Olson is a complex character with a tragic past and darkness inside him that haunts him and seduces him to do heinous acts. The blood lust in him cannot be quenched but then along comes Cate and her complicated family situation. Edward falls in love and fights against the desire to kill her. I was mesmerized by their dynamics and the complicated love triangle that followed. The characters are all well-rounded, each with distinctive traits, and I anticipated their growth the deeper I went into the story, Cate’s most of all. The plot had me at its mercy. Just when I thought I had things figured out, something unexpected happened and I was left thirsting for more with every chapter that followed Overall, Robbi Sommers Bryant’s The Darkness has a fast-paced storyline that enthralled me from the start to the very end.
