I really enjoyed reading The Decline of Democratic Society in the New Age by Giovanni Soriano. When I was in university, I took a lot of political science classes. I like history a lot and political science offered history plus a little something extra; tools of analysis. In many ways, The Decline of Democratic Society in the New Age reminds me of Lenin’s critique of capitalism. They are both insightful looks at the society, political system, and economic system in which we live. I found this book full of plausible answers to questions I have asked myself as I observe the accomplishments and failures of democracy in the United States today. Every curious, educated citizen who wants to get an idea of where our democracy is going, and how we may influence its direction, will be interested in what Giovanni Soriano has to say.

I have a little background in reading political pieces, but I think anyone with a good education can understand and enjoy this book, no matter their field of study. It is well written and easy to understand, even though it sometimes deals with complex issues. It is organized in a way that helps to explain the terms and concepts as the book progresses. The tone is neither condescending nor lecturing, but a plain, straightforward laying out of ideas. I liked this book. Even though I did not agree with every idea or conclusion, I found myself with a great respect for Giovanni Soriano when I was finished.
