Evil has lurked among us since the beginning of time, but very few actually witness its gruesome and gutwrenching display of cruelty. In his career as a detective, Robert Davidson (aka Robbo) saw more monstrosity than most of us. In his memoir, The Evil I have Seen, Robert Davidson has described six gruesome true crime cases. This memoir is not for the faint of heart; it is not fiction so the reader does not have the luxury of waving away the disturbing cruelty of culprits, crediting it to the author's imagination. Case after case, the audience stands face to face with the worst and the most innocent of humans, wondering how could someone do that? Although each case was as unsettling as the next one, the one titled Jeff's Friends was beyond heartbreaking.

The Evil I have Seen by Robert Davidson is one of those books that will live with readers and even haunt them for a long time. By his own admission, Robert struggles with the evil that he had seen, even today. Each crime story, though presented with hard facts and pieces of evidence, is heavy with the author's emotions. The audience watches as the author switches gears from presenting facts and logic to reflecting on the victim's suffering, the culprit's soulless act, the lifelong heartache of the victim's friends and family, and the everlasting impact on the detective. The author's words are filled with a contagious passion. When he says, "It's not something we talk about -- people in law enforcement -- our nightmares, our anxieties, our fears of making a wrong decision in a split second," readers feel a palpable sense of dismay. Robert is an authentic writer whose sentiments rise out of the pages and touch the hearts of his readers. I highly recommend The Evil I have Seen by Robert Davidson.

Everyone has something that haunts them. Some people reluctantly live with it while others pray for peace due to a strong desire for it to go away. But Detective Robert Davidson decided that he should give a voice to what continues to haunt him and maybe then have some release. In his book, The Evil I Have Seen: Memoirs From the Case Files of Det. Lt. Robert (Robbo) Davidson, the author provides detailed accounts of six crime stories that stood out in his mind. As you walk in the shoes of Detective Davidson you will be able to glean the process and procedures for working a case. In this book, you'll feel like you're a part of the investigation team as you review the case background, scan the crime scenes, look at photos, locate and interview witnesses, talk to friends and families of the victims, and apprehend the criminals.

The Evil I Have Seen by Robert Davidson is a must-read for those with an interest in law enforcement, becoming a private investigator, detective, or working on a drug task force because this book has everything from rape, murder, and gangs to drugs. The Evil I Have Seen by Robert Davidson (Retired Chief Detective) is a compilation of true crime stories from the recollections and case files of well-known Louisiana detective Robert (Robbo) Davidson, who worked in law enforcement for four decades. Six incredible stories are intertwined from his memories, case files, court documents, interviews with people including surviving members of victims' families, and convicted killers. Robert’s experiences kept him from sleep as the ghosts of DeSoto Parish tormented his dreams. Robert describes all the cases in detail with photos of the victims, criminals, and crime scenes. As he says - The world can be breathtakingly beautiful and horrifyingly ugly at the same time. Hopefully, Robert and his co-workers as well as the families of the victims have found peace after their traumatic experiences.

The Evil I Have Seen is an outstanding book. Author Robert Davidson has done an excellent job of compiling his information and creating the six true-to-life stories including photos and news reports. The variety of characters such as the criminals, victims, law enforcement, and legal representatives are all well portrayed. Robert’s depictions of the crime scenes are detailed and the surrounding areas are accurately described. The manner in which Robert explains the details of each crime is astonishing and the reader is kept enthralled from beginning to end. The title is appropriate; Robert Davidson certainly has seen his share of evil and went beyond the call of duty to solve these heinous crimes. All-round, a fantastic book highly recommended to all adults.
