Our story begins with a fatally-wounded man, Michael, lying on his deathbed begging Wolf to take, protect, and care for his children. He agrees to tell Wolf the whole story. Michael shares with Wolf his memories of his unusual birth and of how his body changed and developed into something different.

A demon took possession of an old nun, giving her youth in exchange for her serving him. Around her neck she wore a talisman with two angels fighting. When Michael was born, the demon sent his servant for him. Throughout his life the servant continued to hunt him down and destroy those close to him. Michael joined the service and fought the Nazis. Later he took on another body and fought in Vietnam.

In Michael’s true form he was over eight-feet tall and had a wing span of over fourteen feet. He could fly, change his form and fight when filled with rage. Deep inside him was a gentle, loving creature.

This is a book of good versus evil. I wasn’t always sure who was good and who was evil. Yet, I sensed that Michael, while born as evil, was really good. Are we born evil? We know that lack of nurturing and abuse can turn us to evil, but can we be born evil? It appears that Michael was born evil, but the loving care of his mother and the Father created in him a loving spirit.

I quickly became caught up in the plot of First Light. I liked Michael; his character had great depth. The cover is perfection, hinting at what is inside. I suspect this is the first book in a series, although I have not read that anywhere.
