In The Ghost of Shelly Dee by Joel Borelli, a young boy, Drew, sees ghosts and they are not fun. He has had this ability since his parents died. It doesn’t help the fact that his life has been upturned after that. Moved to a different place and pace, he has to learn to adjust to his surroundings or stay miserable. He joins Athens High School as an orphan, but Jen helps him out. She is his only true friend. When he tells her he sees ghosts, she is ready to help him in any way she can.

As it turns out, Athens High School is actually haunted by the ghost of one Shelly Dee, who committed suicide almost forty years ago. Both Drew and Jen try to solve the mystery of Shelly Dee, but soon they figure out that there is something big and nasty in the ghost world. They discover the Shadow People and evil Jasper Wyatt. It is now essential that they uncover the mystery because if they don’t, something big, creepy and positively horrendous can happen. But will they be able to stop the Shadow People and Jasper Wyatt?

Fun and quirky. These are the two words that describe The Ghost of Shelly Dee perfectly. Joel Borelli has made the novel infinitely interesting. The relationship between Drew and Shelly is innocent, very natural and adorable. The two of them are a perfect team and balance each other out perfectly. A really good novel with strong protagonists. Very enjoyable and easy to read. All in all, a great way to keep the kids busy and engrossed in something good!
