The Grey Heir: The Edge Walker Chronicles Book 1 by Zachary Katz-Stein is written with the age group 10-18 in mind and introduces us to Rayne and his world. His world was the market district; he knew every inch of it from the streets to the back alleys. He knew every shop keeper by name and his best friend ran the thieves of the streets; Rayne had his finger on the pulse of the city. That was until the day that the palm of his right hand disappeared, leaving his fingers floating around. He worried that he had been cursed and sought out the Order of Trel.
This is a fantastic and thrilling book for any age reader. While I understand it is geared for younger children and through the teen years, it has enough substance for an adult to enjoy as well. Rayne is a great character and the path he must take to get rid of the curse is a very interesting coming of age style journey. This story is fast paced and you will enjoy taking the mysterious turns with the characters. Everything is well written and you can tell a great deal of thought was put into the planning of this book. I love when an author like Zachary Katz-Stein doesn’t dumb things down just because they are writing for a younger audience. The book is age appropriate, but well done with a proper flow. I highly recommend this book without a second thought.
