The Hidden and The Lost by Leslee Koritzke is a fantastic thriller with twists and turns that will surprise you. Private Investigators Brynna and Marcus had a hard time keeping their business afloat. The cases were difficult to come by, and they had to pay the bills. They were thankful for anything they got, and when they were assigned to find a missing teenager, Marcus and Brynna were ecstatic. However, that quickly turned into a horrified realization as they looked deeper into the mystery of her disappearance. Their search started with Mariam, but before they knew it, their investigation had opened a whole Pandora’s box that left them baffled. People were going missing from Southern California, seemingly without a connection, but Brynna and Marcus believed there was a connection somewhere. Could they find all these missing people before it was too late?
The Hidden and The Lost is a heart-pounding thriller with a strong plot and determined protagonists. There were many characters, and each of them wanted to share their story. Author Leslee Koritzke made sure each of them was heard. There were a few characters that stood out and Brynna was one of them. She was determined to find Mariam and the others. Mariam’s case was strange yet very relatable as well. How many children from broken homes feel the same way as she did? I felt so bad for Veronica. She was just a child who got herself tangled up with the wrong people. I knew saving her would be hard but not impossible. She was conflicted, and that was apparent in how she would act. Koritzke did a fantastic job of creating a believable scenario and allowed her readers to delve deep into the minds of her characters. The narrative style was perfect for the short chapters, the character development was on-point, and the ending was tear-inducingly bittersweet. In short, it was perfect!
