The Holiday Boys by Onicka J. Daniel is the story of a little boy who is excited to learn that he is going to have a little brother soon. He talks to the baby daily when he is inside his mother’s tummy and now that he is born, everyone says the baby resembles the little boy. He plans to teach his little brother how to be good, kind, and loving just how he is. He likes taking care of his little brother and helps to change his diaper, feed him, burp him, and put him to sleep during his nap time. The coolest thing is that both the boys are born on holidays; the little boy on Halloween and his baby brother on April Fool's Day. Everyone calls them ‘The Holiday Boys’. Though there is a new baby in the family, the boy’s parents always make him feel special and give him a big role to play in his baby brother’s life.

I found the story adorable and it handles a relevant topic; that of how the older brother feels when there is a new baby in the family. The illustrations are delightful and they capture the emotions of the older brother beautifully and also give a good pace and movement to the story. It is a good story for all those families who are going to have a new addition in their family or who have just had a new baby. The boy’s story will make older children feel confident about their place in the family once a new baby arrives. Children will enjoy answering the questions at the end of the book and answering them in classrooms can be fun and interactive. It is definitely a must-read for children and parents who have new babies in the family. I cannot wait to read Book 2 to find out more about ‘The Holiday Boys’.
