Michael Youssef has written a provocative book about the leadership style of Jesus and how it could be effectively emulated in today's society. In The Leadership Style of Jesus, Youssef presents the reader with the example of Jesus, an effective leader in his time. Once a leader has followers, he or she must then earn the trust of the followers. This is accomplished in several ways, such as others witnessing the leadership abilities and spreading the word. The leader must acknowledge the wisdom of those who preceded him or her and, by using God's principles, the leader must then consistently display qualities such as truthfulness, generosity, forgiveness, gentleness, and courage. But that is not enough for good leadership qualities as the leader must also resist ego trips as well as negative emotions such as anger and feelings of wanting and/or enjoying power.
This is a very well organized book which will direct many persons in leadership roles. Although it is very difficult to delineate characteristics of persons who are already deceased, author Youssef does a credible job of using Biblical references to Jesus to beef up his case for Jesus being an effective leader. The Leadership Style of Jesus is a book which might attract those in middle management who wish to learn about the responsibilities and the rewards of good leadership. I particularly enjoyed Youssef's analysis of the four means that Jesus used to teach his disciples. They are certainly principles that will easily translate to leadership positions in many modern cultures.
