Two sisters travel to a magnificent planet where they discover their destiny in the children’s story, The Long Road Home: Return to Omohafe by West Hand. Sky and Ocean are mesmerized by Omohafe’s beauty. The stars in its sky are like nothing they have seen before. They sparkle brightly like fireworks and are spread out above them. Though everything in this new land seems fascinating, the sisters learn how their story connects with the history of Omohafe. They discover that, at some point, their birth parents once ruled the land, and someone is after the power that their parents wanted them to have. Sky, Ocean, and their friends travel to fulfill their destiny which involves protecting Omohafe and its people by stopping a treacherous being who wants to take their power.

I enjoyed West Hand’s vivid descriptions of Omohafe’s stunning scenery and beautiful skies. I also found the story easy to follow since its central conflict gives it direction. Sky and Ocean’s role is well-explained and involves fighting against the evil forces that want to take over the planet. I found the children’s adventures entertaining and loved the characters they met along the way and the unexpected action scenes included. I loved that the children worked as a team to defeat their opponents and were courageous enough to go on a dangerous mission to protect the people of Omohafe. The Long Road Home is a fascinating story with scenes that children will enjoy. You will also love the story’s fascinating setting and its absorbing ending.

The second installment of The Long Road Home series by West Hand, Return to Omohafe, picks up the story from where the first book ended. Alongside their friend and mentor June, known as Old Man Rain, sisters Sky and Ocean have arrived at the magical world of Omohafe. Marveling at its beauty and wonders, the sisters have another surprise when their adoptive parents join them on their journey. But now, Sky and Ocean must try to combine the three rare cups that give their holder limitless powers. However, there are others trying to do the same. After Eviler's death, Ann and her sons, Ben and James, have taken over his mantle and seek to become the undisputed rulers of Omohafe. But will the sisters master their abilities before that dark future unfolds?

If fantasy adventures are your favorite genre in fiction, this is a story you need to read. The Long Road Home: Return to Omohafe continues to follow the adventures of Sky and Ocean while setting the account up for future sequels. West Hand has built an immersive fantastical world that feels fresh and original. I liked that he provides a backstory to Sky and Ocean's parents and how they rose to the occasion of being the ones to stop evil from spreading across Omohafe. Hand's writing is crisp and concise. You can probably read the entire book in one sitting; children will love this one.

The Long Road Home: Return to Omohafe by West Hand is the story of two sisters, Sky and Ocean. Together they discover their powers as they journey through Omohafe, the magical planet, with their family friend June. They are in search of two of the three magical cups that will give them the authority to rule Omohafe. Sky is the older sister who is determined to complete their quest and perfect her paranormal abilities while protecting her younger sister. June guides the two young sisters throughout their journey, worried they may not be ready to complete it. The only problem is that Ben and James, sons of the devious former ruler, are also on a quest to find the three cups to have all power over Omohafe.

The Long Road Home by West Hand is an adventurous, imaginative, and mystical story that captures one's imagination and transports the mind to a new universe with magical creatures. The tale is delightful and explores friendship, adventure, and the loving and powerful bond between sisters. I loved the innocence and childlike wonder of Sky and Ocean, beautifully depicted from the outset, and how this evolves with their journey to find the missing golden cups. This contrast is entertaining as you watch the young sisters discover and embrace their power. Some key themes are teamwork and leadership, where Sky works with June, Wally, Ocean, and Sarah to battle the challenges that they encounter. Sky shows leadership when she protects her friends, always coming to their rescue and especially her little sister, Ocean.
