Hispanic culture, in general, has a firm, established view on the ideal male machismo and the female marianismo. In Machismo and Marianismo Tango, Dr. David Sequeira takes a deep dive into how these two ideals often clash and contrast, leading to violence and abuse of women. According to Sequeira, alcohol and substance abuse issues often lead to domestic violence and PTSD. The book further explores the Moorish invasion and conquest of Spain and examines how it fundamentally altered Spanish culture. It also opened the doors to Spain conquering the New World, leading to the rise of machismo within the Hispanic populace. The author shares some valuable insights on how to treat PTSD, showing how building self-esteem and spiritual growth can be beneficial assets for the healing journey.

The Machismo and Marianismo Tango is an illuminating book that examines in great depth the prevalence of toxic masculinity among the Hispanic population. Dr. David Sequeira's observations are well-reasoned and thoroughly researched. The author delves into the root causes of the topics discussed in this book in vivid detail. I found the historical context of the Moorish invasion of Spain and the subsequent Spanish reconquest really interesting. This book is a must-read for all those who have borne the brunt of toxic masculinity. It will help you heal and navigate PTSD with renewed confidence and vigor. Sequeira also touches upon the impact of spirituality on a person suffering from PTSD. Overall, it's an informative and educational book that sheds light on the plight of Hispanic women in the modern world. Highly recommended!
