In the suspenseful coming-of-age novel, The Mystery of the Glowing Locket by Liam Moiser, two young friends solve a centuries-old mystery involving a mystical locket. A bully in school coerces Olivia to visit an abandoned ghostly house. Olivia knows she has to do what Becky says, or she will have no friends left in school. While visiting the old house, she bumps into Lauren, whose family has just moved to town. Later, both girls realize they are wearing identical lockets and begin researching their history. The story is interspersed with details about the locket, which, according to legend, glows when it is close to the great treasure hidden in the eighteenth century. It follows the stories of those who once held the locket and others who, out of greed, tried to obtain it.

The story opens with a gripping scene that includes a man whose ship has just been wrecked and he is running away from a pirate. The scene drew me in. Other characters’ stories from different periods are also exciting. Lauren and Olivia are endearing heroines. I appreciated that the story explores preteen friendships, including their issues. It contains valuable examples of how to deal with bullying. I loved that the girls formed a close friendship and helped each other throughout. The plot includes many exciting scenes in which the protagonists are forced to risk their lives and outwit dangerous villains. The Mystery of the Glowing Locket by Liam Moiser is an adventure-filled story with appealing heroines that children will love.

I grew up reading tons of Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books that's why I enjoyed reading "The Mystery of the Glowing Locket" a lot. Although its target readers are 9 to 12-year-olds, teenagers and some adults will also like reading this story with two female protagonists. Aside from the thrilling mystery elements, readers will also learn about the value of true friendship and the negative effects of greed.

The book's vivid descriptions transport readers into a world of mystery and suspense, where danger lurks around every corner. With its strong female protagonist and valuable lessons on friendship and greed, this book is the perfect bedtime story for 9 to 12-year-olds. The well-developed characters and intriguing plot twists kept me entertained throughout, reminiscent of a modern-day Nancy Drew mystery. This page-turner will inspire young readers to believe in themselves and overcome any obstacles they may face.

I grew up reading Nancy Drew mysteries when I was a young teen. The Mystery of the Glowing Locket brought that series to the foreground for me. The two protagonists were very well developed and the adventures they encountered moved you through the story with anticipation as to the next scene. I hope this author continues to write more such stories that stir the imagination of young teens. A series would be awesome.

I really loved the pacing of the story and how effortlessly the author hopped through different settings. The girls' friendship and almost telepathic understanding of each other was refreshing to read. I think this book is great at highlighting the challenges preteens face when they’re learning more about themselves and evolving through their friendships.
