The Night I Fought the Dark is a children's picture book written by Brian A. Quinn, featuring illustrations by Emily Hercock. The story follows a young boy who is afraid of the dark and going to bed. When eight o'clock strikes, his mother takes him to his bedroom, switches off the lights, and leaves the hallway light on. She reminds him that there is nothing to fear in the dark. However, the boy sees shadows approaching and is frightened, cowering under his blanket and wishing for morning to come. The shadows do not leave, and he is suddenly woken by a loud noise. Hoping to find something to help him face his fears, the boy opens the box at the foot of his bed. Inside, he discovers a mighty sword that shines brightly, so he decides to venture into the dark to confront his fears. Join the young boy as he battles the dark and learns a truth that will change everything for him.

The Night I Fought the Dark is a beautiful story that highlights the importance of facing our fears with bravery and confidence, as not everything is as scary as it seems. The book is written in a poetic style using simple language, which appeals to young readers. Brian A. Quinn’s narrative is inviting and engaging, introducing readers to a relatable character who embodies familiar fears that many children face each night. Whether young or old, this book inspires readers to live courageously and teaches that strength can arise from overcoming fear. The vibrant illustrations perfectly complement the story, and the art is separate from the text, making it easier for those with reading difficulties to focus on the words and enhance their reading skills. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend sharing it with little ones who are afraid of the dark, as it encourages them to be brave and face their fears with confidence.
