The role of women in the magic industry has traditionally been relegated to helpers, assistants, and presenters. However, over the decades, many distinguished female illusionists, magicians, and mentalists have left their mark on the magical performing arts industry. In The Power of Magical Women, author Connie Boyd presents the inspirational stories and works of over seventy prominent women who shone in the magical performing arts industry and utilized their skills to promote women's education, empowerment, and creative expression. Alexandra Burgio burst onto the scene with her grand illusion stunt escapes. Anastasia Synn is a transhumanist who integrates groundbreaking human augmentation technology in her performances. Ding Yang has mastered the art of Dove Stage Magic. Alyx Hilshey brought Kozmo street magic to the corporate world.

The Power of Magical Women is one of the most enlightening books on women in the magic industry. Author Connie Boyd draws from her own articles and cover features, originally published in VANISH International Magazine, to bring to life the uplifting stories of over seventy extraordinary women who changed the course of history and forever altered the magical performing arts industry. The book features real-life photographs of the performers alongside some of their notable works/performances, as well as their background stories and the challenges they had to navigate to make their mark and bring transformational change to the world at large. One of the many highlights of the book for me was magician Lisa Menna's story and how she used her influence to help women through global outreach programs in places like India, Ethiopia, and New Guinea. This book is bound to inspire and motivate the next generation of great female magicians. Highly recommended!
