The Protector of Peace, Book 3 of the Trip Montgomery series is a science fiction adventure by Scott Clements. Thirteen-year-old Trip Montgomery is chosen by supernatural forces to be The Protector of Peace. His sole mission is to find and guard the Triumvirate from its feared enemy, The Destroyer. The Triumvirate is a three-part contraption made from diamonds and its purpose is to unite humanity with peace and prosperity. If The Destroyer, who survives by inhabiting weak human bodies, possesses the Triumvirate, he will create worldwide devastation. Trip and his friends embark on a cryptic trail of clues left by the Founding Fathers of the United States to locate the third missing piece, The Hummingbirds of Love. Recovering the Triumvirate is not an easy task since The Destroyer uses numerous host bodies to disguise and deceive Trip, whom he also intends to eliminate.

I enjoyed reading The Protector of Peace, which has noteworthy historical facts woven into a suspenseful, action-filled plot. Several scenes reminded me of the movie National Treasure but this story has kids as its main characters. Scott Clements' writing is clear and precise and he puts his thoughts into words very well. Trip’s character is rather complex as he doubts his abilities as Protector and it shows. Trip and his friends are so unlike in personalities and temperaments, but that made the story amusing. This is the third book in the Trip Montgomery series and it is a great conclusion to Books 1 and 2 by Scott Clements.
