The Reluctant Prophet by Gillian O'Rourke is about young Esther who ran away from her father after her mother's death when she was 12. She was taken in by a priestess and it became her goal to become a priestess herself, so she became an initiate and underwent the trials to become a priestess. After becoming a priestess, Esther realizes that she may not have earned the right and that it may have just been given to her because she has visions about the future. After being stationed at the main temple near the city, Esther starts to see how she is being used by the superior when things start to go wrong in her life. Through everything, Esther keeps her faith and continues to do what she thinks is best for the path she feels she is meant to be on. Through more twists of fate and thanks to the interference of the gods, Esther ends up on a path she never thought she'd be on.

The Reluctant Prophet is an incredible book and was very hard to put down. Gillian O'Rourke puts you right there with Esther and makes it very easy for your imagination to see what is happening. The Reluctant Prophet tugs at the heartstrings in parts and I cried for Esther a few times. I found it very hard to put The Reluctant Prophet down. It had me drawn in from the start and made me want to read it from start to finish. The Reluctant Prophet is an amazing book and I will definitely recommend it for others to read.
